Context

Midinero, a company based in Uruguay and part of a payment and collection line called Redpagos, hired UruIT as their development service provider for their app.

The app had over 1 million users at the time. Initially, the project did not include a redesign of the app. The first idea was to recycle the app, but after recognizing many opportunities, a redesign made more sense. This decision would have a better impact on future products.

My role

  • Led the app's design and web versions for users and company users.

  • Organized workshops.

  • Aligned all consultancy companies, Midinero had to have the same design system and communication through its multiple platforms.

Team

  • Product Owner Proxy: Marcelo Leonetti

  • Developers: Pablo González, Adrián Claveli y Rodrigo Pintos

  • UX/UI Designer: Vanessa Morales

Midinero’s original app design:

Process

I joined the project and conducted a 2-week discovery phase to understand the app's current state. It was challenging as I had no business counterparty at Midinero, and we only had contact with technical employees. I conducted guerrilla testing to understand Midinero's users and gain insights. Gradually, I gained allies in the technical team and worked closely with key stakeholders, including the marketing manager, to create guidelines for the app's redesign and future products.

Discovery

As part of our efforts to assess the user experience of Midinero and identify any gaps or pain points, some members of our team and I became mystery shoppers. We went through the process a user would follow to obtain Midinero's card, download the app, and use the service.

To summarize this phase, I created a Journey Map (A) that outlines all the opportunities we discovered and could potentially address during the project.

Furthermore, I conducted a Heuristic Evaluation (B, C, D), which revealed some pain points regarding the platform's usability.

*Please note that all the documents related to this assessment are available only in Spanish, as our client speaks Spanish.

Working in sprints

As part of our efforts to meet Midinero’s business needs, I developed prototypes to validate with Midinero users within our team. In addition, I took the initiative to engage some users to facilitate user testing.

Solution

The app redesigns are now stable and available for all Midinero's users, which was not the case in the past. This new design allows users to preview their balance and expenses efficiently. All their most valuable information, including currency and more advanced filters, is available at first glance.

The designs for the user’s and company users' websites were finished and delivered to a different consulting firm for development.

Per company policies, I cannot display all the app screens. Please refer to the GIF used in publicity.
