Creating the "Followed Sellers" list to unlock engagement and visibility for buyers and sellers

Mercado Libre

UX/UI | Product design

Overview

Before this project, users on Mercado Libre could follow sellers or official stores, but had no real way to engage with them afterward. They couldn’t search by seller, receive messages, or view a centralized list of their followed accounts. This created a value gap: the "follow" action existed, but the experience around it was fragmented and invisible.

Our team was tasked with creating a new space, "Followed Stores list", within the app’s navigation. This list would provide users with direct access to the stores and sellers they follow, while also enabling features for discovery, filtering, and communication.

Team

  • Product Manager

  • UX/UI Designer (myself)

  • Design Manager

  • Developement team

My contributions

  • Led UX design for the new “Followed Sellers” experience.

  • Collaborated with product, tech, and data to define MVP and phased releases.

  • Designed and iterated the interface for listing, searching, filtering, and connecting with sellers.

  • Participated in cross-functional check-ins to coordinate development.

  • Proposed UX adjustments to improve clarity and encourage exploration of suggested sellers.

  • Validated flows and contributed to launch planning.

Process

  • Planning and definition

Collaborated with the product team to scope and prioritize an MVP that could launch in under two weeks.

Defined six incremental versions of the feature with added capabilities in each iteration.

  • Design and delivery

Designed and prototyped the “Followed Sellers” list, including:

    - List view of followed stores
    - Search and filtering by new/last followed and name.
    - Suggested stores
    - Direct access to the seller’s pages and broadcast channels to access new products and discounts.

Participated in agile sprints and performed checks with the development team and the buyer broadcast team.

  • Iteration

Worked closely with PM to measure impact and plan for next iterations.

Supported communication for the launch and internal documentation.

Results

  • MVP designed, developed, and launched in under 2 weeks.

  • The list generated 36% of new followers within the first week of release.

  • Created a new way for users to re-engage with sellers and discover new stores.

  • Helped increase visibility of seller broadcast channels and brand content.

  • This feature is live now, you can check it at Mercado Libre’s app.

This project demonstrated how small UX decisions, such as adding visibility and structure to an existing user action, can lead to significant behavioral and business outcomes. It also showed the value of tight cross-functional collaboration under time pressure and how to deliver meaningful functionality, even in MVP form.
